VyTräd provides tools to help you keep track of your research plans and progress.
Identify limits of knowledge
The visual nature of the Family Directory structure highlights the extent of your knowledge for you. The branches of the tree that require more work are very evident. Family information can be entered in such a way that missing information can be highlighted. For example, if the name of a spouse is not yet known, the missing information can be indicated by “_______”. This is displayed in the tree and helps identify families that can be researched further.
When you import a Family Tree, you can choose to add a text file in each directory that contains the known facts about the family. This text file can be edited to include information about research progress, strategies, road-blocks, source information or any other information that you wish to record for assisting your future research about the family. Other files that you use, such as spreadsheets, can be placed in Family directories and can be opened easily from VyTräd in their own application.
Share with collaborators
You can easily share the documents you have accumulated by copying the root directory to a flash drive. Or using an on-line backup service, the documents can be shared by giving access to your family members or research collaborators. Since all directories and documents are contained in the root directory, this single directory can be shared or backed up to preserve all of your hard work.
Searching and bookmarking tools are available to help you locate and return to families that are your current research subjects.
