Managing directories and documents in your Family Tree Directories is simple and clear.
Viewing your family tree
Use the Directory List to expand and collapse the Family Tree and to select the Family you are working with. Directories for descendants of the selected Family are highlighted in the Tree control. You can search for a family or person in the Tree. You can even bookmark directories to revisit at a later time. Duplicate Family information is also displayed here. Documents and photos contained in the selected Family’s directory are displayed in the Document List.
Updating family information
Each Family Unit directory shown in the Directory List displays Family information that you define. You can display the names of the parents, their birth and death years, date of emigration, etc. You can edit this information easily to update, correct or add to the information. This added information is searchable to locate the Family you want to work with.
Adding documents to your family tree directories
Adding documents to the correct Family Unit directory can be done by copying the path to the directory and using it as the destination for saving the added documents. You can also open directories in Windows Explorer for adding files or for other tasks.
Copying existing documents into VyTräd directories
You can open VyTräd twice. Use the first instance to locate and copy documents from your existing file storage system. Use the second instance to find the destination directory in the VyTräd tree to paste documents into.
You may use any file naming convention that works for you. You can sequence documents chronologically by starting file names with dates, in a YYYY-MM-DD format. You can include family names and the type of document. You can include a brief description of the source in the file name as well. Tools are available to monitor file and path name length.
